Casemiro: Super Cup Great Motivation for New Season

Real Madrid were able to defend their UEFA Super Cup title. The defending champs defeated Manchester United by a score of 2:1 to successfully kick off the new season. Real took the lead with goals by Casemiro and Isco while Romelu Lukaku scored a consolation goal for United.

After becoming the first team ever to successfully defend their Champions League title last season, Real starts the new season by doing the same with the Super Cup, playing in front of a packed Filip II Arena in Skopje.

In an exclusive statement for Sportifico, Casemiro, who scored the first goal for Los Blancos, talked about his impressions of the match and the value of the trophy that his team is taking home.

“For me, winning this trophy is an absolute joy. Our team functions as a family and we, along with our manager, deserved to raise this trophy in the air once again. The match was very difficult, which makes us even happier that we were able to triumph in the end. This type of start to the season will provide a great incentive and motivation for new victories,” the Brazilian said.

For the 25-year-old Casemiro, the Super Cup was the eighth championship he has won – with Real Madrid, three Champions League, two Super Cup, one La Liga, one Copa del Rey title and one FIFA Club World Cup.
